Advisory Board

The Envisioning Excellence Advisory Board consists of current and former community college presidents, non-profit leaders whose work supports community colleges, and community college system leaders. The expertise of the Advisory Board is helping steer NC State’s redesigned community college leadership development programs. The Envisioning Excellence Advisory Board helps direct NC State faculty and partners to address the most pressing issues facing North Carolina community colleges.

Dr. William S. Carver
Dr. William (Bill) S. Carver has been with Nash Community College since 1987. He has held several positions, including Dean of Continuing Education, before being promoted to Vice President of Instruction in 1998 assuming responsibilities for credit and non-credit instructional programs.

Dr. Lisa M. Chapman has been in the North Carolina Community College System for twenty-eight years.  She currently serves as the System Senior Vice President for Programs and Student Services/Chief Academic Officer.

Dr. Mary Ann Danowitz is Dean of the College of Education at NC State University. Dr. Danowitz served previously as Professor of Higher Education and Head of the Department of Educational Leadership, Policy and Human Development.

Dr. Audrey J. Jaeger is a Professor of Higher Education and Alumni Distinguished Graduate Professor at NC State. She also directs the National Initiative for Leadership and Institutional Effectiveness (NILIE), an organization focusing on campus climate survey administration.

Cynthia Liston joined the Endowment in August 2014 as its first Program Officer. Prior to that she served as Associate Vice President for Policy Research & Special Projects at the North Carolina Community College System Office, where she led comprehensive developmental education redesign across the state and served as a policy lead for Completion by Design.

Dr. Dale McInnis, President of Richmond Community College and a life-long resident of North Carolina, completed a bachelor’s degree in business management from UNCP. He earned a master’s degree in business administration from Campbell University and his doctorate in higher education administration from NC State University.

Dr. Millicent Valek is president of Brazosport College and has served in this role since 1996. During her tenure as president, Brazosport College has been named a leader college in the Achieving the Dream, student success initiative, has garnered the support for three major facility expansions, and has gained legislative authority to offer one of the first baccalaureate degrees at a Texas community college.

The college’s new strategic plan focuses on educational excellence, continuous improvement, employee and student engagement in college life, and institutional stewardship.
